Wayne Oordt, 90, Charles City

Wayne Oordt, was 90 years old when he entered eternal rest from a broken heart after his wife Lois passed away in December 2025. His three daughters were by his side when he passed on Friday April 10, 2026, at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa. He was born on September 17, 1935, in Hospers, Iowa to Frank and Allie (Rozenboom) Oordt.

Wayne attended Sheldon High School in Sheldon, Iowa where he met his high school sweetheart Lois Mulder. On June 22, 1953, they were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were married for 72 years. Wayne was a hardworking husband and father. He worked for the Sanborn Creamery, hauling milk in Sanborn, Iowa. Then he moved his family to Charles City where he worked for Skyline Harvestore for many years. Later he worked for Allied Construction in Charles City, Iowa. Wayne built eight houses in Charles City along with developing Wandering Acres.

 Going camping and fishing with family and friends was one of his favorite past times.  He had many talents including entertaining his grandkids and great grandkids with wiggling his ears. He is known for roasting hogs for many different occasions around Charles City.

Wayne and Lois spent 28 wonderful winters in Mesa, Arizona where he learned to carve amazing sculptures.

He is survived by his three daughters, Lorraine (Doug) Hoeft of Charles City, Renae (Bob) Virgl of Wahoo, Nebraska, and Tahlene Davis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Dustin (Emily) and Brent (Chanisse) Hoeft, Brittany (Alex) Kavan, Tyler (Kelsie) and Derek (Emma)Virgl, Chad (Clara) and Christine Davis; 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, MaryAnn Richter; sister-in-law, Joyce Bremer, niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Oordt, mother, Allie Cooper, wife, Lois Oordt, granddaughter, Darcee Hoeft, in-laws, Ole and Mag Mulder, brother-in-law, Paul Bremer, and son-in-law, Randy Davis.

A private viewing and funeral service will be held on April 15, 2026, at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City.
