Charles City Fire Crews Battle House Fire Thursday (04.16) Night

There were no injuries reported following a house fire in Charles City Thursday (04.16) night.
Charles City Fire Chief Sam Deverell says the 911 call came in just after 11 pm, with fire crews dispatched to 309 1st Avenue. CCFD personnel arrived to find a single-story, single-family residence with heavy smoke and fire in the basement.
Firefighters immediately began a fire attack, with mutual aid received from the Colwell and Floyd fire departments and various public safety agencies. Close to 30 firefighters battled the blaze until almost midnight, when the fire was extinguished.
Emergency responders remained on the scene until about 1230 am.
Deverell says the house was occupied at the time of the fire, but smoke alarms alerted the occupants and they got out of the house to safety. They were then able to call 911.
He adds there were no injuries to emergency responders.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and there is no immediate danger to the public.
Also assisting at the scene were the Charles City Police Department, the City Water and Street Departments, Floyd County Communications Center, Floyd County Search & Rescue, Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance, and MidAmerican Energy.
