Homeless Man Jailed on Burglary, Assault Charges in Mason City

MASON CITY, IA — A 42-year-old man is in custody following an alleged break-in and assault at a Mason City residence over the weekend.
William Hester has been charged with first-degree burglary and third-degree theft in connection with the incident.
According to law enforcement, officers were called to a home in the 600 block of 4th Street SW on Saturday morning. Investigators allege that Hester kicked open the front door, entered the residence, and struck a person inside three times in the head.
Authorities also report that Hester is accused of stealing a backpack from a vehicle later that same day.
Hester is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a $27,000 bond as the investigation continues.
