S.A.L.T. Spring Forum to Bring Seniors, Law Enforcement Together in Mason City

MASON CITY, Iowa — A community-focused event aimed at connecting seniors with local law enforcement and public safety resources is set to take place later this month.

The Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (S.A.L.T.) Spring Forum will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Grace Church, located at 440 North Illinois Avenue in Mason City. The event is free to attend, and complimentary lunch will be provided.

Organizers say the forum is designed to keep older adults informed, safe, and engaged with local agencies. Attendees will have access to a range of important updates and resources, including free blood pressure checks and an on-site immunization clinic hosted by Cerro Gordo Public Health nurses. Vaccines for pneumonia, RSV, tetanus, and shingles will be available, and participants are encouraged to bring their insurance cards.

The main program begins at 10 a.m. and will feature presentations from several local and state officials. Law enforcement agencies will provide updates, while the Iowa Department of Transportation will share information on current and upcoming road construction projects.

A key highlight of the event is a session titled “Take Back Control: Your Fraud Recovery Playbook,” presented by McKenzie Humpal, Sarah Thein, and Nikki Olson of NI Financial Crimes Awareness & Prevention. The discussion will focus on helping individuals recognize and recover from financial scams.

Another presentation, “Scammed—But Not Alone: How the County Attorney & Victim Witness Team Can Help,” will be led by Kaitlyn J. Ausborn, Assistant Cerro Gordo County Attorney, offering insight into legal support available for victims.

In addition to educational sessions, attendees who receive a vaccine will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Walmart gift card.

The event is supported by a wide range of community partners, including the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Department, Mason City and Clear Lake Police Departments, Iowa State Patrol District 8, CG Public Health, and several local healthcare and senior service organizations.
