Michael L. Secory “Bum”

Clear Lake-Michael L. Secory “Bum”, 77, passed away Monday, April 20, 2026, at his home.
A visitation will be held on Thursday April 23, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Ave. North, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in care of the family. In honor of Mike and his love for the Iowa Hawkeyes, please feel free to wear your Iowa Hawkeye attire!
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday April 24, 2026, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428, with Mark Doebel officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Iowa at a later date.
Michael Lawrence Secory was born August 2, 1948, the son of Ralph and Catherine (Barber) Secory. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in the class of 1966. He began working in the family business started by his grandfather, Ed Secory. In 1986, Mike and his step-brother John Lynch partnered becoming owners of Secory Plumbing and Heating; faithfully serving the community for many years before selling the business to Daryl Ouverson in 2024.
On June 7, 1968, Mike was united in marriage to Bonnie Rae Jenkins. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and enjoying the simple pleasures, and were blessed with their daughter, Michele.
Mike had a deep appreciation for life’s everyday joys. He loved his fishing trips to Canada with his friends those trips were among his favorite adventures, creating lasting memories over the years. He also enjoyed playing cards, and listening to 1950s music. Mike also enjoyed going the races in Mason City, Britt and Newton.
Mike was known for his friendly, social nature. He truly enjoyed being around people—whether that meant gathering with friends, sharing a laugh, or relaxing with a good cocktail at the end of the day. Winters were often spent in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where Mike and Bonnie embraced the sunshine, the water, and the friendships they made along the way. His greatest love was spending time with his family.
Mike is survived by his daughter, Michele (Kevin) Monson; grandchildren, Seth (Whitney) Monson, Tyler (Abagail Eckert) Monson, Aliah (Marcus Soto) Monson, and Isaiah Monson; great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Kase, and Lennyn Monson, and Amiyah, Cormac, Kylarae, Maylan Soto and Cassius Soto; siblings, Linda Graff, Pam Marsh, Tom (Marylou) Secory, and Danniele (Raymond) Sexton; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill (Pat) Tarr, Sandy Jenkins, Judy Secory, Connie (Wayne) Dirks, and Fran Cates; step-brother, John Lynch, Judy Lynch Vry and Bill Lynch; bonus daughter, Shannon Hanson; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will dearly miss him.
Mike is preceded in death by his wife Bonnie in 2023, his parents, Ralph and Catherine Secory; step father, Russ Lynch and step-mother, Karen Secory; his mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Cora Jenkins; siblings, Steve Secory, Cinda Michel, and Don Secory; nieces and nephews, Michael Secory, Breanna Secory, Erica Benson, and Andrew Schroeder, Kevin Harmon; sisters-in-law, Jean Tarr and Cheri Jenkins and his brother-in-law, Lanny Jenkins.
