Mason City Internet Outage Nearing Resolution After Fiber Line Cut

MASON CITY, Iowa — Internet service in Mason City is expected to be restored soon after a widespread outage that began yesterday was traced to damaged fiber infrastructure, according to Metronet.

The outage was caused when a road construction crew accidentally severed a Metronet fiber line near the intersection of South Federal Avenue and 22nd Street. The disruption left many residents and businesses without internet access for an extended period.

Metronet crews have been working overnight to repair the damage. As of the latest update, repairs are nearly complete, and customers are expected to begin seeing service restored within the next hour.
