UPDATE: Mason City Internet Outage Restoration Delayed Following Fiber Cut

MASON CITY, Iowa — An anticipated resolution to a widespread internet outage in Mason City has been delayed, according to an updated statement from Metronet.

The outage, which began yesterday, was caused when a road construction crew severed a Metronet fiber line near South Federal Avenue and 22nd Street, disrupting service for residents and businesses across the area.

Earlier updates indicated that repairs were nearing completion and service would be restored within the hour. However, officials now say the scope and intensity of the repair work has extended the timeline.

Metronet now estimates that service restoration will take approximately four more hours and should be totally restored by this evening.

Crews have been working all through the night and into the day to repair the damaged infrastructure.

Metronet again thanked the community for its patience as work continues and noted that additional updates will be shared as they become available.

The outage continues to highlight the impact that infrastructure damage can have on essential services, particularly when caused by construction activity.
