Intermittent Lane Closures Begin on U.S. 218 in Osage

OSAGE, Iowa (April 23, 2026) — Road construction work has resumed on U.S. Highway 218 in Osage as part of an ongoing improvement project in Mitchell County, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT).
The project, which includes full-depth patching and hot-mix asphalt resurfacing, is a continuation of work that began last year. Officials from the DOT’s New Hampton construction office say the work is expected to be completed by late May, weather permitting.
Motorists traveling along the two-lane section of U.S. 218 should be prepared for intermittent lane closures throughout the construction period. Traffic will be managed with the assistance of flaggers and pilot cars guiding vehicles safely through the work zone.
The Iowa DOT is urging drivers to use caution when traveling in the area. Officials remind motorists to follow posted speed limits, obey all traffic signs, and remain alert while navigating through construction zones. Fines for moving violations are at least doubled in work areas.
Drivers are also encouraged to maintain a safe distance between vehicles and ensure all passengers are wearing seat belts.
Authorities emphasize that staying attentive and cautious can help keep both workers and travelers safe as the project moves forward.
