New Hampton Man Wins Half-Million Dollar Iowa Lottery Prize

A northeast Iowa man has won a half-million dollar lottery prize, though his winning is bittersweet.
The Iowa Lottery says Charles (Chuck) Stanton of New Hampton scored $500,000 with the 500X scratch game.
A Lottery Facebook post notes that, “grief and joy collided in a way Charles Stanton never could have imagined,” with his big win coming two days after his father, Duane Stanton died on April 10th. His funeral was held last Friday (04.17).
Owner of Stanton Electric in New Hampton, Stanton tells the Iowa Lottery that he stopped on a drive and bought his winning scratcher.
Stanton said it felt like a nod from his dad and “It was his way of telling me everything’s going to be OK.”
The Lottery says Stanton sat on his winning news for nine days while focusing on family, with Stanton claiming his prize on Thursday (04.23).
Other recent Iowa Lottery winners include Andrew Shimp of Black Hawk County, who won a top prize of $50,000 with the “Fire and Ice 7s” scratch game. He bought his winning ticket at Pronto in Washburn and plans to pay down the loan on his vehicle, share with his family and “have fun this summer.”
Carol Callow of Manly won a top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$50,000 Super Crossword” scratch game. She purchased her winning ticket at Kwik Star on South Eisenhower Avenue in Mason City. That’s the same store that sold Steven Saltou of Northwood a winning Powerball ticket for $200,000 about a week earlier.
And there’s Michael Slipka, who recently moved from Illinois to Charles City. Earlier this month, he bought a winning “$100,000 Mega Crossword” scratch ticket at Kwik Star on Gilbert Street in Charles City. Sliepka said he plans to use his winnings to buy a reliable vehicle, pay off debt and set some money aside for the future.
