Mason City Man Sentenced to Prison After A Series of Violent Attacks

A Mason City man has been sentenced to prison nearly a year after a series of violent incidents in the community.
BJ Sahle, 29, was originally arrested on multiple charges, including second-degree robbery, attempt to disarm a peace officer of a dangerous weapon, assault on persons in certain occupations, and interference with official acts causing bodily injury.
According to court records, the incidents occurred on May 7, 2025. Sahle first assaulted an individual in Central Park around 4:30 p.m., striking the victim in the face. Later that night, just before 11 p.m., a second assault was reported on 1st Street Southwest. During that encounter, Sahle attempted to take the victim’s dog and stole a flashlight, using it to strike the victim and cause injury.
Authorities reported that Sahle also physically resisted responding officers, engaging in a struggle with multiple law enforcement personnel and attempting to take an officer’s firearm.
Sahle later pleaded guilty to first-degree theft and attempt to disarm a peace officer of a dangerous weapon. He has been sentenced to a prison term of up to 10 years.
