Gov. Reynolds Issues Statement on Passage of Iowa MAHA Bill

DES MOINES — Governor Kim Reynolds on Tuesday released a statement following the Iowa Legislature’s passage of House File 2676, also known as Iowa’s MAHA bill, after clearing both the House and Senate.

In her statement, Reynolds praised lawmakers for advancing the measure, which focuses on health and wellness initiatives across the state.

“I’m grateful to the House and Senate for passing Iowa’s MAHA bill which takes common sense steps to improve health and well-being for Iowans of all ages,” Reynolds said.

According to the governor, the legislation includes several provisions aimed at improving nutrition, expanding access to care, and enhancing medical education. Among the changes, food assistance programs will place a stronger emphasis on nutritional value, while school lunch programs will eliminate certain dyes and additives considered unhealthy.

The bill also introduces new requirements for medical professionals, encouraging doctors to complete evidence-based nutrition courses. Reynolds said this will help physicians better educate patients and promote healthier outcomes.

Additionally, the legislation seeks to address gaps in mental health services by allowing psychologists licensed in other states to practice in Iowa, a move intended to increase access to behavioral health care.

House File 2676 now heads to the governor’s desk for signature.
