Hermanson Wins Republican Nomination for Iowa House District 59

MASON CITY, Iowa — Christian Hermanson has secured the Republican nomination for Iowa House District 59 after defeating challenger Rugby Sliger in Tuesday’s primary election.

House District 59 includes Mason City, Swaledale, Rockwell, Dougherty, Rock Falls and Plymouth.

Hermanson was first elected to the Iowa House in 2024 and is seeking a second term. He said his campaign remains focused on lowering taxes, supporting small businesses and agriculture, strengthening public safety, and reducing the cost of living for Iowa families.

“It’s my honor to receive the Republican nomination for Iowa House,” Hermanson said. “In my first term, we prioritized public safety, mental health, investments in education, and much-needed property tax relief. We delivered historic property tax relief and expanded access to childcare and healthcare. If re-elected in November, I will continue working to lower costs so that working Iowa families can thrive.”

A North Iowa native, Hermanson grew up on a family farm near Scarville in Winnebago County before building a career in public service and later returning to the region.

Hermanson is a retired Chief Master Sergeant who served 29 years in the military. He also worked in property management and previously served as a police officer with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Minneapolis.

With the primary win, Hermanson advances to the general election on Nov. 3, 2026.
