Charles City Bicyclist Airlifted After Being Struck by Truck in Floyd County

FLOYD COUNTY, Iowa — A Charles City bicyclist was airlifted to MercyOne Medical Center in Mason City with serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck Monday morning at the intersection of 220th Street and Walnut Avenue, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:12 a.m. when an eastbound 2018 Ford F-150, driven by Robert Leon Mehmen, 79, of Charles City, collided with an eastbound bicyclist, according to a State Patrol crash report.
The bicyclist, identified as Robert Joseph Krueger, 77, of Charles City, was transported to MercyOne Mason City by MercyOne AirMed for serious injuries, the report stated.
The F-150 was towed from the scene by S and T Towing.
The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol. Troopers were assisted by the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Charles City Fire Department and AMR, according to the report.
