Reynolds Orders Iowa Flags at Half-Staff Through July 18 for Sen. Lindsey Graham

DES MOINES — Gov. Kim Reynolds has ordered that flags across Iowa continue flying at half-staff until 6 p.m. Saturday, July 18, in honor of U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who died July 11 at age 71, following an order from President Donald Trump.

Graham served in Congress for more than three decades, first in the U.S. House from 1995 to 2003, then in the Senate through his death. He also spent 33 years in the U.S. Air Force, rising to the rank of colonel and earning a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service as a senior legal adviser in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“Sen. Lindsey Graham’s decades-long service in Washington D.C. is legendary, and he will be greatly missed,” Reynolds said. “I’ll remember him fondly for his big personality and southern charm, but most importantly for his unwavering patriotic spirit. My prayers are with his family and friends.”

Flags on the State Capitol Building, throughout the Capitol Complex and on public buildings, grounds and facilities statewide are also currently at half-staff until sunset Friday, July 17, in honor of U.S. Air Force Maj. Brad Hovey, who died during a B-52 flight test mission June 15.

Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff for the same periods as a sign of respect.
