Mason City Man, 46, Arrested in Fatal Fareway Parking Lot Crash

MASON CITY, Iowa — A Mason City man has been arrested in connection with a fatal vehicle incident that occurred in January in the parking lot of a Fareway store, according to the Mason City Police Department.

Timothy Best, 46, of Mason City, was taken into custody at about 8 a.m. Thursday and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail, police said.

The incident took place Jan. 31 in the parking lot of the Fareway store at 400 N. Delaware Ave., according to police.

Best was charged with homicide by vehicle-reckless driving, a Class C felony under Iowa Code 707.6A(2), police said.

The Iowa State Patrol and the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office assisted the Mason City Police Department throughout the investigation, according to the release. Police Chief Mike McKelvey said their support and collaboration were crucial to advancing the case and bringing charges.

Police said the case remains active and that no further details would be released at this time.
