Algona Spray Plane Crash Lands After Clipping Power Lines, Pilot Treated for Minor Cuts

ALGONA, Iowa — A crop-spraying plane crash landed in rural Kossuth County on Wednesday evening after losing power and clipping nearby power lines, according to the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office.

The Kossuth County Law Enforcement Center received a 911 call at 4:17 p.m. Wednesday reporting a plane crash near 1009 180th St., rural Algona, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The Cessna Model A188B spray plane, registered to D and K Aviation Inc. of Milford, lost power and clipped power lines near the residence before crash landing on the property, according to the release.

The pilot was the only occupant of the aircraft, the sheriff’s office said. No one at the residence was injured.

Kossuth County EMS treated the pilot at the scene for minor cuts. The pilot was not transported to a medical facility, according to the release.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Kossuth County Emergency Management, Kossuth County EMS and the Algona Fire Department all responded to the scene.

The Federal Aviation Administration was notified and will conduct its own investigation, the sheriff’s office said. Midland Coop was notified to repair the damaged power lines and restore power to the area.
