Mason City’s Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank Launches Dollar-for-Dollar Match Up to $20,000 in August

MASON CITY, Iowa — Donations to Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank will be matched dollar for dollar throughout August, giving North Iowa donors a chance to double their impact as rising costs push more families toward hunger.

Several local businesses, professional firms and individuals are matching all donations up to $20,000 during the month, according to the food bank. The matching campaign is part of the Give Where You Live initiative.

Under the match, a $1 donation becomes $2, a $25 donation becomes $50, a $50 donation becomes $100 and a $100 donation becomes $200, according to Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank.

Each dollar donated buys six pounds of food through the Food Bank of Iowa, the organization said.

Everyday essentials have grown more expensive, and many North Iowa families are struggling to keep food on the table, according to Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank. The organization said it provides emergency food assistance to neighbors in need but requires additional financial support to meet demand.

Donations can be made online at Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank’s website, in person at its facility at 122 South Adams St. in Mason City, or by mail to Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank, P.O. Box 1565, Mason City, IA 50402-1565.

The matching campaign runs through the end of August or until the $20,000 match is reached, according to the food bank.
