Pierce Avenue to Partially Close at Iowa 122 in Mason City Starting Aug. 17

MASON CITY, Iowa — Pierce Avenue will partially close at its intersection with Iowa 122 starting Monday, Aug. 17, as work continues on the Iowa 122 reconstruction project between Monroe Avenue and Pierce Avenue, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.

The closure is weather-dependent.

Pierce Avenue traffic will no longer be able to cross Iowa 122 while crews reconstruct the south half of the intersection.

Traffic will be limited to the following movements:

Westbound Iowa 122 traffic will be able to turn north onto Pierce Avenue. Southbound traffic on Pierce Avenue will be able to turn west onto Iowa 122. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Iowa 122 will continue to be able to travel through the intersection.

During the closure, eastbound traffic will need to follow a marked detour route to reach Mercy Hospital and Clinic, according to the DOT.

The DOT reminded motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and signage in the work area, and remember that fines for moving violations are at least doubled in work zones. Drivers should also stay alert, leave ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts, the agency said.
