Mary A. Hill

CLEAR LAKE – Mary A. Hill, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,310 First Ave North, Clear Lake, IA 50428, with Pastor Will Hunsaker officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

Mary was born January 11, 1940, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Vern and Phyllis (Lucas) Larson. During her childhood, the family relocated to California for a couple of years before returning to Clear Lake. Mary was blessed with two children, Randy and Sue.

Mary was able to stay at home to raise her children. At the age of 65, she began services with NIVC, where her incredible work ethic and dedication quickly became evident. She continued working until July 2026.

Mary enjoyed gardening, crafting, riding her bicycle around town, shopping “in the big cities”, attending parades, and watching cartoons and old movies. She especially treasured traveling with her “Off the Beaten Path” group, enjoying many memorable trips throughout the country and Niagara Falls. Mary was known for her collection of hair scrunchies, love of tiaras, and playful sense of humor. She would bring smiles to those around her and brighten any day. Giving brought her joy, and she never hesitated to share what she had with others.

Mary is survived her son, Randy Hill of Clear Lake; daughter, Sue Hill of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Jennifer Akers (Greg Shurtz) of Mason City; Steven Akers (Danielle Ryczek) of Tampa, Florida; Christopher, Amber, and Jessica Evenson; great-grandchildren, Paisley Akers and Dylan Evenson; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Phyllis Larson; and son-in-law, Mark Akers.
