Gloria J. “June” Brasser

Gloria J. “June” Brasser, 102, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2026, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 First Avenue North, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428, with Deacon Matt Berry officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Clear Lake Cemetery in Clear Lake, with full military honors by members of the Clear Lake VFW Post 4868.

Gloria June was born June 7, 1924, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Tracy and Anna (Lutz) Gray. June graduated from Goodell High School with the Class of 1942. In January 1944, she enlisted in the WAVES for United State Navy and proudly served her country until her honorable discharge in 1946.

June was united in marriage to Benedict John “Ben” Brasser on August 16, 1947, in Mason City, Iowa. To this union, two children were born, Ben Jr. and Mary. In 1956, the family made their home in Clear Lake.  June worked at St. Joseph Hospital for many years before retiring in 1988. 

Following her retirement from St. Joseph Hospital, June worked for several years at Walmart, where she was affectionately known as “Ms. June.” She retired from Walmart in 1997.

June had a wonderful sense of adventure, to celebrate her 80th birthday, she went skydiving. Five years later, she celebrated her 85th birthday in Las Vegas, where she went ziplining. In her quieter moments, June enjoyed crafting.

June was a member of the American Legion, VFW Auxiliary, WAVES National and the Red Cross Gray Ladies. She served as a Cub Scout and Brownie Scout leader and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, where she taught CCD.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Ben Jr. (Vicky) Brasser; daughter, Mary Zimmerman; grandchildren, Shawn Zimmerman, Seth Zimmerman, Cassie (Jake) Martin, and Brianna Brasser; great-grandchildren, Zoey Zimmerman, Rhiannon Martin, and Zander Rumeliote; special friend, Sarah Kephart along with other relatives and friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Tracy and Anna Gray; her husband, Ben Brasser, in 1980; brother, Neal Gray; sister, Carole Brandenburg; and son-in-law, Gary Zimmerman.

June will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her proud service to her country and community, her adventurous spirit, and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable 102 years.
