Judith “Judi” Ann (Lashbrook) Balek

Clear Lake-Judith “Judi” Ann (Lashbrook) Balek, 79, was called home on Saturday, August 29, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She is now happy, walking freely, and enjoying her new surroundings. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judith Ann “Judi” Balek was born on November 14, 1946, in Wyandotte, Michigan, the daughter of Russell and Gladys (Fitzgerald) Lashbrook. She grew up alongside her older sister, Patricia (Lashbrook) Buchanan. Judi was raised in Southern California and graduated from Monrovia High School in Monrovia, California.

On February 12, 1966, Judi was united in marriage to Mike Balek. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Michelle and Laurie. Judi was a devoted wife and mother who took an active role in her daughters’ lives and activities.

Judi was a member of the High School Band Boosters and enjoyed working on floats for the Pasadena Rose Parade. She also participated in fundraising activities for JDRF.

Throughout her working years, Judi was employed by General Telephone Electric Company in California, where she held various positions within the company until her retirement.

Judi had an adventurous spirit and a love for experiencing all that life had to offer. She enjoyed swimming with dolphins, ziplining in San Diego and Las Vegas, celebrating Mardi Gras with family, and exploring new and unknown places. Among her most treasured adventures was a trip to Ireland with her daughters. Never one to shy away from excitement, Judi even experienced the thrill of an indoor skydiving simulator.

Above all, Judi cherished the time she spent with her family and the memories they created together. Her adventurous nature, love of life, and devotion to those closest to her will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Those left to cherish Judi’s memory include her husband of 60 years, Mike Balek; daughters, Michelle Woodbury and Laurie (Nate) Benzing; grandchildren, Katherine Benzing, Amber Adams, Madison Benzing, and Ryan Woodbury; sister, Patricia Buchanan; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Judi was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Gladys Lashbrook; her grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
