2 Killed, 1 Injured in Head-On Crash on Kirkwood Avenue Near Osage

OSAGE, Iowa — Two people were killed and a third was injured in a head-on crash Friday afternoon on Kirkwood Avenue near 440th Street in Mitchell County, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:05 p.m. when a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox traveling south on Kirkwood Avenue collided head-on with a 2008 Dodge Dakota traveling north at the same location, the Iowa State Patrol said. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Two people died in the crash, according to the report. One of the deceased was wearing a seatbelt and the other was not; in neither case did seatbelt use prevent the fatality, officials said. Both were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office by Hoff Celebrations.

A third occupant was injured and flown to Mayo Clinic by Mayo Clinic Air Medical Services. That person was wearing a seatbelt, and officials said the seatbelt saved their life.

The names and ages of those involved have not been released.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Osage Towing.

Iowa State Patrol investigated the crash, assisted by the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell County EMS, St. Ansgar Fire Department, Mayo Clinic Air Medical Services, Hoff Celebrations and Osage Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
